Sabbatical Studio
Interiors with history, character and a life beyond the new.
Sabbatical Studio creates considered, individual interiors that bring together vintage character, contemporary comfort and practical living.
From a clear design direction to complete room schemes, sourcing and styling, we help you create a home that feels collected, personal and made to last.
The Approach
Good interiors are rarely assembled all at once. They evolve through useful pieces, beautiful materials, personal stories and time.
We begin with the architecture of your space and the way you want to live within it. From there, we develop an interior that balances atmosphere with function, bringing old and new together in a way that feels natural rather than overly styled.
Our guiding principle is simple:

Everything must earn its place.
That might be through comfort, usefulness and durability, or through beauty, craftsmanship, history and the pleasure a piece brings to a room.

Services
Every project begins in a different place. You may need a fresh perspective, a clear design plan, help shaping a complete interior, or the final pieces that bring everything together.
Our services are flexible and tailored to your space, your pace and the way you want to live.
Design Consultation
A focused session for when you need an experienced second set of eyes.
We can explore layout, colour, furniture, lighting, finishes or a particular design problem, leaving you with practical ideas and a clearer direction for your space.
Design Blueprint
A considered interior scheme that you can bring to life at your own pace.
Your blueprint may include a design concept, colour and material palette, furniture layout, lighting direction, suggested furnishings and a tailored sourcing list. It is ideal for clients who want professional direction while managing the implementation themselves.
Bespoke Interior Design
A personally developed service for rooms, renovations and larger interior projects.
Depending on your project, this may include concept development, spatial planning, colour and finish selections, furniture, lighting, window treatments and detailed sourcing. Each decision is considered as part of the whole, creating an interior that feels cohesive, comfortable and distinctly yours.
Sourcing & Styling
For spaces that need the final layer of character.
We source vintage and contemporary furniture, lighting, artwork, textiles and decorative pieces chosen for their beauty, usefulness, craftsmanship and story. We can also refine and style what you already own, helping meaningful pieces find their proper place.
Projects

A 1920s Glenelg apartment renewed for contemporary stays, preserving its original character while introducing comfort, colour and a playful sense of occasion.

A new rural retreat taking shape at Kyeema, where contemporary architecture meets the soul of a milking shed, a trekking hut and a collection gathered over time.

Narinna
A personal Adelaide interior that brings together historic architecture, mid-century furniture, contemporary art and useful objects gathered over many years.

How it works
1
Listen
We begin with your space, your needs and the way you want your home to feel. We also consider what is already working and what is worth keeping.
2
Shape
We develop a clear creative direction, bringing together layout, colour, materials, furnishings and atmosphere.
3
Refine
Together, we review the scheme and refine the details until the design feels resolved, practical and genuinely yours.
4
Realise
You may implement the design independently using your blueprint, or continue working with us through sourcing, selection and styling.
Hi, I'm Kelly Staker
I founded Sabbatical Studio as a natural extension of creating Sabbatical’s own character-filled stays.
My background in engineering gives me a practical eye, while my formal studies in interior design and longstanding affection for old buildings, vintage pieces, art and the stories carried by objects shape my creative approach.
I balance atmosphere with function to create spaces that feel layered and individual, while remaining comfortable, useful and able to support real life.
If you are considering a new project, I would love to hear about your ideas and discuss how Sabbatical Studio could help create a space that feels distinctly yours.
